Keys Keys Keys!
Darren and Exit practiced hard, got tight, and in a few months, booked their first show together at the Old City Hall. The Ferris Wheel had decided that 99 attracted too young of a crowd who wouldn't be buying beer, so they refused them to play there again. Old City Hall was directly across the street and had a more tolerant approach, and since both Darren and Exit were regulars, it was easy to grab a Wednesday night, in place of the normally scheduled open mic night.
The early shows were chaotic and always different. The concept was to always do something new and keep people confused. The near by 99¢ store was also a necessary stop before the shows. They spent $20 each show on stuff to throw out to the audience. It was always a mixed bag. They had themes each night, one was a bath party (without a bath) which request your presence in a bathroom or attire. Another was the show on October 26th, which was the Christmas show. Since all the stores started pushing that commercialism of Christmas earlier each year, 99 tried to beat everyone to Christmas. The entire bar was decorated and many came in confused.
During these shows, two were just Darren and Exit, and two others were with Maria playing on keys.
More to come at some point...
